Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, light touch method of evaluating the craniosacral system, the environment in which the brain and spinal cord function. An imbalance or dysfunction in the craniosacral system can cause sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. These problems may include chronic pain, vision difficulties, scoliosis, motor-coordination impairment and learning disabilities, as well as other physical and psychological problems.
CST is a safe and non-invasive therapy for children and babies with colic, behavioral issues, sucking difficulties, sleep disorders and torticollis (head tilting problems), trauma during birth either by cesarean, forceps and/or suction. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a coin, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. All babies should have a CST evaluation soon after birth to prevent long-term problems.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
